What is "the zone" in P90X?

Tony says to stay in "the zone" in Plyometrics and Kenpo. But he doesn't say what "the zone" is. I couldn't find it defined in the P90X fitness guide.

Is it the aerobic zone only? Or is it the aerobic and anaerobic zones combined?

I ask because I assume he means the aerobic zone only, but the people in the videos sometimes give their heart rates which often aren't in the aerobic zone.

A related question:
Is Plyometrics considered an aerobic exercise? My heart rate skyrockets in some of those moves. Should it be considered interval training instead?
